Trôo is situated in the department of Loir-et-Cher and the Centre region. Trôo is an ancient troglodytic city built on limestone hillside overlooking the Loir valley. Troo commands a breathtaking view across the valley and river and is made up of a complex network of subterranean galleries dug in the hillside. Traces of its importance as a medieval city can still be seen today by visiting the heights of the village, where remains are visible. A double surrounding fortified wall dominated by a feudal mound and a splendid roman collegiate church. Trôo is situated 5 km west of Montoire and 25 km west of Vendôme. It is midway between the cities of Blois, Tours and Le Mans (50-60km). From Paris (200 km), you can take the A10 (exit N°18 Amboise-Chateau-Renault) or A11(exit n° 5 La Ferté Bernard) motorways. Or you may choose to take the high-speed train (TGV) from Paris-Montparnasse to Vendôme-Villiers which takes 42 minutes. |
